Conservative government
fails to honour fallen soldiers
Honourable Judy Sgro, Member of Parliament for York West, today expressed concern that the Conservative government is preventing the public from seeing images of flag-draped coffins when our fallen soldiers are returned home from Afghanistan. For the first time since the Afghan mission began, the government will shut down the Ontario airfield when the remains of four soldiers killed over the weekend are returned home.
"Canadians all share the grief of the families of our fallen heroes," Sgro said. "The government's decision to prevent Canadians' involvement in this tragic day is unconscionable," Sgro added.
Honourable Judy Sgro today also commented on the government's decision to not lower Canadian flags to honour our fallen soldiers.
"I am deeply distraught that the government has not expressed the nation's sympathy and respect by the customary lowering of our flag," said Sgro.
"We must do everything possible to honour the brave men and women who give their lives for our great country."
