Sgro calls for Judicial Action
OTTAWA – As the Conservatives’ crime policies are about scoring political headlines rather than making our streets safer, MP Judy Sgro today put forward three points which she sees as critical for an effective crime prevention strategy.
The first is investing in early learning in high risk communities. “We must ensure that children in vulnerable neighbourhoods get the best possible start in life,” said Sgro, “This will ensure that they become positive, contributing members of society and do not fall victim to poverty and crime.”
Sgro also called on the government to fund further Restorative Justice Programs. “These programs seek healing, forgiveness and active community involvement,” said Sgro, “so they can be of great value to rehabilitate entire communities.”
Judy Sgro stated that tough penalties for those who commit violent crime, coupled with prevention, are key to keeping our streets safe. “Today I am calling on our judicial system to administer severe sentences for anyone involved in gun crimes,” said Sgro.
